Top Unique Ways to Brew Coffee
Brewing a cup of coffee can be very interesting. Coffee has been around for a long time and so many different methods have been introduced to make a great coffee. We all have our favourite, but some lesser-known methods also brew an excellent cup. I did a little research and found a few very unique and amazing ways you can brew a cup of coffee. Here is my top 3 list.
The Siphon Method
The siphon coffee method is one of the most beautiful methods to watch. It works on the scientific principles of water vapor expansion and contraction. It’s basically two glass bowls on top of each other, connected by a narrow tube. Water in the lower bowl is brought to a boil and vapor expansion pushes the hot water to the top bowl through the tube. The top bowl containing ground coffee gets saturated as the water rises. Once all the water reaches the top bowl, the siphon is removed from the burner. The temperature change creates a vacuum, through hydrostatic pressure the coffee in the top vessel is sucked into the lower one. The coffee is passed through the filter in the middle of the two vessels. You end up with a pristine, crisp cup of coffee with bright flavours due to the direct extraction. If you ever see one at a coffee shop, I recommend you try it.
The Air Press Method
Similar to the French press, but the taste and final result is different. The air press is a chamber with a filter at the bottom of it and a plunger to push the water and coffee through. The chamber's filter is fine and made of paper, to compare to the metal mesh filter the French press offers. Because of this, you can use a finer ground coffee, which is a definite plus if you like a more bitter brew or a stronger tasting coffee. You mix the coffee grinds and hot water in the chamber with the filter, place it over your cup and push on the plunger forcing the coffee through the filter and into your cup. The plunger traps in air that pushes down on the coffee through the filter. The result is a low acidity espresso that brings out the flavours of your coffee. You can add milk, water or drink it as it is.
The Keurig Brewer
The Keurig brewer is a popular method, but unique nonetheless. It’s a brewing system that uses K-Cup® portion packs. The Keurig brewer is an advanced state of the art system that uses innovative single-cup technology to brew a perfect cup of coffee. Its built-in system delivers the perfect amount of coffee at the ideal water temperature with the perfect pressure for a brilliant cup every time. Plus, you can choose from a wide variety of blends, including coffees that suit your Coffee Profile. If you think about it, it’s an innovative 21st century method to brew a fresh cup of coffee. If you ask me, I think single-cup brewing is setting the next coffee brewing milestone since Melitta introduced the coffee filter in the 1920’s!
