Coffee calories
Coffee is 99% water, so it has no calories or nutritional value regardless of brewing method. On the other hand, milk, cream and sugar all contain calories, so keep that in mind if you're concerned about your caloric intake.
Flavored powders can be used to add flavor to coffees, however, they are usually inferior products. That is why Van Houtte makes flavored coffees by adding a liquid concentrate to ground coffee or whole beans.
The liquid concentrate does not contain sugar or nut proteins, therefore, does not add calories and is safe for people with nut allergies.
Coffee does not contain gluten. Van Houtte's pure roasted coffee - whole bean and ground - is gluten and casein free.
Gluten can sometimes be found in the artificial flavourings used to make flavoured coffees, but we purchase flavourings that are hypo-allergenic. More specifically, all of the flavouring agents used for our flavoured coffee are tested for about 20 different allergens, including gluten, and all are gluten-free.
All flavourings used at Van Houtte are gluten free. Only our Praline Pecan has a derivative from corn, but it is gluten free.
You must, however, still keep in mind that the flavour houses that Van Houtte does business with must declare the possible presence of gluten containing products or other allergens in their plants and production lines.
We are conscious that even a minute amount of gluten accidentally coming into contact with one of our flavours could have serious consequences. This is why it has been our policy to discourage people who acknowledge gluten sensibility (celiac disease) to consume our flavoured coffees.
Van Houtte products are 100% coffee and, therefore, inherently kosher. We do not modify our recipes or processes in any way for them to be certified. The kosher logo on our packaging is simply additional information for customers who are looking for this type of product.
All Van Houtte coffees are made from pure coffee. No other ingredient is used in the processing our coffees.
Van Houtte's flavoured coffees are made by using the same pure coffee and adding a small amount of a flavouring to it.
The liquid flavours used are certified not to contain nuts or nut products, gluten, meats and alcohol, and are certified by the supplier to this effect. All of our flavours are Kosher certified.
Van Houtte's decaffeinated coffees are made using pure decaffeinated coffee beans processed either with water or with Ethyl Acetate, a recognized process approved. The decaffeination process is Kosher certified.
In short, no alcohol and no animal by-products are used in the production of Van Houtte's coffees which are certified by Montreal Kosher |
